With homeschooling growing at a rapid pace, I saw the need to put together a little guide to help new and seasoned homeschooling mothers alike in their journey to create a more simplified home, schedule and mindset.

The guide covers physical space, calendars, homeschooling materials, technology, and mental space. When minimal homeschooling is a choice versus a necessity, you may appreciate some guidance from someone who purposefully chose this route.

Our family has been “minimally” homeschooling now for about three years. And it’s the best thing we’ve ever been called to do. (We are NOT perfect, however, that would be insane and unrealistic. So please give me grace as you read along)…

This guide is merely just that: a guide. I pray it brings fruit to your life (which may feel a bit insane at the moment if you’re in your first or second year).

Before you continue, I highly recommend you first refer to your Bible because, well, minimalism is essentially biblical. Nowhere does Christ recommend we stash up belongings. No. He asks us to follow Him first and go and create disciples.

This requires intentionally living our lives, homeschooling our kids while minimizing distractions that derail us from our calling.

True treasure does not come from being bogged down during our the most precious days we have with our children. Especially and specifically because we were called to homeschool them!

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. — Romans 12:2

Know that fear has no place directing our homes or our days. We can trust the Lord and with that, ourselves, with our homeschool. And we can trust Him to guide us in our mission to minimize.

We can simplify our schedules and minimize our belongings so we and our children reap the most from each day. We can create a loving and minimal home so our children not only appreciate their belongings but learn from simple and beautiful educational examples.

A minimal homeschool will mean different things to each and every family. The only deadlines are the ones you set for yourself. The ultimate goal is to feel at peace and clarity instead of feeling frazzled, scatterbrained and exhausted every day.

My desire is you find encouragement through gentle nudges of direction with each step taken. And, in the end, I pray you find a loving rhythm and clarity where you’re able to live in the present moment with you children more and more – and then find time again for the things you value most – whatever those gifts and passions may be.

Looking for some quick resources? Jump to the last page where I’ve listed several  books and homeschool sites to help jumpstart and encourage you during your minimal homeschool journey.

If you find this guide helpful, please let me know. I’d love to hear how your personal journey is going and see how I can improve in encouraging others in the future.

Blessings to you and your family.

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. — I Timothy 6:6-8

Another wonderful article! Your suggestions will be a blessing to many, especially your suggestion to ask the Lord in prayer. He will answer based on His plan. “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”~Ephesians 6:18 (NLT)

Thank you for sharing your experiences!
